This
page features some more commonly asked questions we
get from parents interested in getting their children
involved in martial arts:
--Q:
How many times a week should my child attend classes?
--A: We recommend two classes a week, plus a certain
amount of practice on the students own time. This helps
the student to become proficient at a quicker rate of
time.
--Q:
Will there be other beginners in my childs' class?
--A: That depends because a new student can start
at any class. A new student will always have an instructor
with them for the first two weeks until they can work
out with the main group of students. The junior classes
run seperate from the advanced adult class. We also
promote helping among students, so as your child moves
in with the rest of the group, the higher ranking belts
will actually help your child to advance. Our school
promotes teamwork and friendship and our students are
always willing to help out one another.
--Q:
Will martial arts make my child overly aggressive?
--A: At Cambria Martial Arts Academy, children are
taught that the martial arts are not to be used for
aggression, but rather to defend oneself in problematic
situations. Aggressive behavior is channeled into assertiveness
to increase the childs' self-esteem, increase discipline,
and build character. The martial arts are very beneficial
for a shy child to develop confidence and become more
assertive as well as to help children see that physical
violence is not the only solution to any problem.
--Q:
Will the classes be safe?
--A: Absolutely. All classes are taught by David
and Darcy Regala, and they are strictly monitored to
ensure complete safety.
--Q:
What about sparring (practice fighting) and gear for
sparring?
--A: All students are provided with sparring equipment
and all children are required to wear the equipment
and are strictly supervised. The chances of injury are
very small.
--Q:
How long will it take my child to get proficient at
the martial arts?
--A: The time it takes to become proficient varies
with each individual student and depends on the effort
they put into thier training. At Cambria Martial Arts
Academy, students are often amazed by thier own ability
and the accomplishments they achieve in as little as
six months. The training will give them the confidence
of knowing they can defend themselves in most situations.
